COLD-WEATHER CAMPING RECIPES

MAPLE HUDSON BAY BREAD

Ingredients

2  lbs. Butter

4  cups Dark brown sugar

5  cups Maple syrup (REAL Maple Syrup is better)

2  cups Sunflower seeds (roasted)

2  cups Golden Raisins

18  cups rolled oats (NOT instant)

2  cups Whole Wheat flour

2 tbs. Salt

4 tbs. Cinnamon

2 tbs. Ground Cheyenne pepper

Preparation

1.       Pre-heat oven to 350oF.

2.      In a large mixing bowl, cream together all ingredients EXCEPT the rolled oats and flour.

3.      Once these ingredients are well-mixed, fold in the rolled oats, mixing thoroughly.

4.      Add the flour to achieve a somewhat pasty mixture.  Failure to add sufficient flour will cause   the bread to fall apart after baking.  Add additional flour if needed.

5.      Spread the mixture in a large sheet pan, pressing firmly to pack.

6.      Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until lightly browned on the corners.

7.      Remove from oven and re-press the bread - this keeps it from crumbling.

8.      Cut into brownie-sized squares while warm, but not hot.
